It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a year since NorthSky went live.
In that time, we’ve built a national e-commerce platform, brought together an incredible team, and connected with customers from (almost) every state in the country.
Our product team has logged miles to every corner of the globe to make sure every tool, glove, and safety product that carries the NorthSky name meets our standards. Competing in e-commerce demands scale — you have to think big to even have a seat at the table.
But the longer I do this, the more I’m reminded that big ideas often start right next door.
Our office — our home — is here in Texas. And tucked in The Woodlands, just north of Houston, we’re surrounded by a community that quietly represents every side of the modern economy: energy, manufacturing, construction, logistics, design. You don’t have to look far to find people who know what it means to build something real.
In our own building, we’ve met neighbors who became partners, partners who became friends, and friends who’ve challenged us to think differently. Some of the best business advice I’ve heard this year didn’t come from a conference or a white paper — it came from a conversation in the hallway. From people who are solving their own versions of the same problems we’re solving: How to grow responsibly. How to stay customer-first. How to make technology serve people, not the other way around.
E-commerce moves fast, and it’s easy to keep your eyes fixed on markets and margins halfway across the world. But every time I slow down long enough to talk with the people around me, I’m reminded that growth starts with connection — and that lessons learned close to home are often the ones that scale the furthest.
At NorthSky, we’ll keep thinking big. But we’ll keep listening small. Because sometimes, you don’t have to look too far away to look far ahead.
